About the Brand

Founded in 1904 by The Honourable Charles Royce and Sir Henry Rolls, they started producing cars targeted for the first class. Ever since, they have created models that were truly luxurious of its time. They introduced the first Phantom in 1925 to replace the outgoing Silver Ghost. In 1931, they were able to acquire Bentley, whose finances failed to survive the Great Depression.

Being initially established as Rolls-Royce Limited, the automotive business de-merged from the nationalized Rolls-Royce Limited, and it was named as Rolls-Royce Motors in 1973. In 1990, Vickers was able to purchase the Rolls-Royce Motors and later on it was sold to Volkswagen in 1998. BMW was the logical purchaser since it has been supplying components to both brands, but Volkswagen won the bid, but it didn't have the rights to use the name and logo of Rolls-Royce. After some negotiations are done between Volkswagen and BMW, it was agreed upon by the two parties that BMW will continue the supply until 2002. And in 2003, BMW established the new Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited, which currently sells one of the most expensive luxury cars available in the market.
