Varekai: The new Aston Martin SUV
Aston Martin has just confirmed that its very first SUV will be produced at the end of 2019 in its brand new factory in St Athan (Wales). On the other hand, the British manufacturer does not always let transpire any information on this new model.
Derived from the DBX concept presented in 2015 in Pebble Beach (USA), this first Aston Martin SUV could be called Varekai according to the English press. Its gasoline version should benefit from a V12 house but the idea for Aston Martin would be to offer the most powerful SUV in the world, in front of the Lamborghini Urus and its 650 hp, thanks to a hybrid engine. For this, the manufacturer would have decided to integrate a V8 4.0L biturbo at Mercedes-AMG associated with an electric motor of about 200 hp, all grazing the 700 hp.
In the high end, competition is growing in terms of SUV with Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. In addition to Aston Martin, Ferrari also secretly prepares its very first SUV.
Note that Aston Martin has another SUV in its drawers, in this case for its premium brand Lagonda, expected no earlier than 2021. It will be a model declined Lagonda Vision Concept, partly autonomous, presented in Geneva in March 2018.
