Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: 700 horsepower under the hood
The images published by Ford, those of a new Mustang Shelby GT500, do not say very long on the racing car, but it will reassure the enthusiasts of the Mustang: the emblematic bands of the GT500 will adorn this new model, highly anticipated.
This model will be for those who find the current Mustang Shelby GT350 a little too quiet: indeed, this new car of the Shelby family should develop about 700 horses. What compete without blushing two other American monsters, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat (707 horses) and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (755 horses). When it is released in 2019, it will simply be the most powerful road car ever produced by Ford.
Although Ford has confirmed that the GT500 will be equipped with "innovative technologies for the circuit" and a "functional style made for the circuit", it will not be a model only designed for the circuit, but well a vehicle approved on the road. Despite its power, its wide grille and the aggressive style of the aerodynamic devices surrounding the wheel arches, which make it wider than the "normal" Mustang, the GT500 can be fully used for daily commutes.
It is rumored that the new Shelby GT500 will probably not cross the Atlantic to be marketed in Europe. But the possibility is not to exclude completely. After all, few of them expected the Jeep Grand Cherokee, powered by the 700 horsepower Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat engine, to travel to Europe. It is almost done, since an announcement made at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month confirmed that the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and its incredible engine, was indeed en route to the Old Continent.
In addition, about a quarter of the Mustangs currently assembled by Ford in the United States are destined for the German, Chinese and British markets.
